What is a Doula? A doula is a woman who gives support, help, encouragement and advice to another woman during pregnancy, labour, birth and after birth.
I aim to support and protect women and their partners in their birth choices.I provide continuous support to them through their pregnancy, labour, birth and postnatal period.
I support women and their families who are planning a home or hospital birth, water birth or planned C-section birth.
As their doula I support and nurture them emotionally physically and provide information to enable them to make informed choices.
As a doula I work alongside the midwives and doctors not in a clinical or medical role and I do not provide medical advice but nurture, support and comfort.
Most of my doula clients attend my Wise Hippo classes in Harpenden, St Albans or Hatfield.
I provide Reflexology, Aromatherapy and Relaxation sessions as part of my package of care.
By the time it comes to the birth we are very familiar friends working together for a positive birth experience.
I am a birth Doula and mentored post natal doula.
I am a member of Doula U.K. since training with Michel Odent over four years ago.
Statistically, having a doula at a birth
- Reduces the length of labour.
- Reduces the risk of c-section by 50%.
- Reduces the need for artificial pain relief e.g. Epidural.
- Increases the positivity of the experience thus reducing the risk of postnatal depression.
Mentored Post-Natal Doula
As a mentored post-natal doula I offer emotional and informational support for the new mothers and their families in their own homes.
I can help new parents enjoy their babies, rest more, and encourage a smooth transition into early parenthood.
The services I provide are bespoke to the individual needs of the new family – such as helping around the house, emptying the dishwasher or washing machine, looking after the baby, helping with the other children, grocery shopping, preparing light meals, or simply as someone there to talk to, depending entirely on the needs of the new mother.

I can honestly say that having three very different birth experiences has led me on this path of wanting to make things better for future mums and dads.
My first birth experience was a difficult one. It left me and my husband feeling robbed of a positive birth experience. Not until my third child was born comfortably and easily did I feel healed from the experience.
It has now become my mission to help all pregnant couples to feel prepared, confident and in control of their birth experience and ensure they have the right birth on the day and every birth story to be a success story.
With my professional training, my skills and my experiences, I aim to achieve this everyday when teaching couples my amazing Wise Hippo Birth programme, or helping them overcome any unpleasant pregnancy symptoms with my reflexology – or simply holding their hand as their doula. I am there from Bump2Birth2Baby.
